TRUTH ABOUT HYDRATION

-- Dimity Mcdowell, www.runnersworld.com

Myth: Pee clear to be hydrated.

Truth: Clear urine is a bit excessive. "As long as it is a pale yellow, like lemonade, you're hydrated," says Yeargin. If it's completely clear, it just means you're full to the brim; what's going in is coming out. On the other hand, if your pee is the color of apple juice or darker, or particularly smelly, you need to drink up.

DENGUE FEVER PREVENTION by mosquito control

--www.denguevirusnet.com

The best way to reduce mosquitoes is to eliminate the places where the mosquito lays her eggs, like artificial containers that hold water in and around the home. In urban areas, Aedes mosquitos breed on water collections in artificial containers such as plastic cups, used tires, broken bottles, flower pots, etc. Periodic draining or removal of artificial containers is the most effective way of reducing the breeding grounds for mosquitos.

To eliminate standing water:

   - Unclog roof gutters;

   - Empty children's wading pools at least once a week;

   - Change water in birdbaths at least weekly;

   - Get rid of old tires in your yard, as they collect standing water;

   - Empty unused containers, such as flower pots, regularly or store them upside        down;

   - Drain any collected water from afire pit regularly.

GET ON A BIKE!

There are plenty of ways to enjoy your day, but riding a bike early in the morning is one of the most active ways to spend your time. According to NutriStrategy, a relaxing bike ride of  less than 10 mph (<16kph) burns more calories than an easy walk — 281 calories versus 176 calories per hour. Challenge yourself by powering your way up hills and pushing your speed over 10 mph, but even keeping to a leisurely pace is a great way to supplement an active lifestyle.

BLOOD TEST THAT CAN TELL IF YOU ARE DIABETIC

Several tests are used to check for diabetes, but a single test result is never enough on its own to diagnose diabetes (the test has to be repeated).

One is the fasting plasma glucose test, which checks your blood sugar after a night (or eight hours) of not eating.

Blood glucose above 126 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) on two occasions means you have diabetes.

The normal cutoff is 99 mg/dL while a blood sugar level of 100 to 125 mg/dL is considered prediabetes, a serious condition on its own.

NEWBORN HEARING SCREENING TEST

One of the tests used in the screeing is called otoacoustic emissions or OAEs. For this test, a miniature earphone and microphone are placed in the ear, sounds are played and a response is measured. If a baby hears normally, an echo is reflected back into the ear canal and is measured by the microphone. When a baby has a hearing loss, no echo can be measured on the OAE test.
